Get a new IAC. Idle Air Control valve.

bout how much is that?

Part costs about $70.

Mucho IAC information here, tried searching?

Go to autozone and ask for a throttle air bypass. That is what autozone calls them.

The IAC is one of those parts that I'd get a Ford one, not a copy.

He just try cleaning it as well. Cheaper than just replacing it, and cleaning takes about 10 minutes.

alec i tried srearching but didn't know what the part was called when i first asked. thanks for your help guys.

Ahh yes, I remember that howl and it's definitely the bypass valve... I had the X in for some work anyhow and had Ford stick it in... now more embarassing howl.

Is this a common problem among all Xs or something more common in ~96s?

In the interim, turn up the volume! :D

It's doing it on my 97 now. I don't know which is louder though, the IAC or the valve clatter!

One of these days when I get my truck back from the body shop I'll have to figure out where it is and try cleaning it.
