what kind of material is a enclosure made of? i want to make a custom box for my sub but what do i use?

3/4" MDF is what I use. MDF= Medium Density Fiberboard. You can get this at just about any lumber yard, lowes, Home Depot etc. Most boxes are made out of this material. Verry good stuff I use the 3/4" cause it doesnt flex.
 






Yes, use at least 3/4" MDF. If you've got something huge planned that handles a lot of power and moves a lot of air, you may even want to use 1" MDF. You could also use fiberglass if you have experience in that area.
 






I used 3/4 inch novaply board, which is basically a slightly coarser grade of fiberboard than MDF, it was cheaper, but a little harder to finish.
