I've heard of a lot of people who cut off the rest of their exhaust pipe after the muffler and adding a turndown tip. They say it is alot louder but do they get more hp or do they lose hp. If you gain hp then im going to do it but will i need to put a turn down tip because of the fumes or maybe im over cautious. I would really apreciate if you guys can get back to me on this.

(if this gets me more hp can i do it my self with some kind of saw.?)

So what my main question is will you lose horsepower by cutting it off but still be loud, will your horsepower stay the same and be loud, or will you gain hp and be loud?

There wont be a hp gain if it's chopped after the muffler, unless they got a fawked up exhaust system.... Downward tips are supposed to be louder...

Well, it depends on the tailpipe you have on there. You won't lose power if you still have cats and a muffler, but you might gain some if the tailpipe is more restrictive than either. However, I do not recommend doing this as 1) its illegal and 2) dangerous due to the fumes. If you want better sound and power, get a decent catback setup and use a turndown right at the rear bumper instead of going straight out the back.

i thought its only illegal when your running without a muffler or a catylitc converter.?

It is illegal to have exhaust exit anywhere under (or to the side I believe) the passenger compartment.

can i cut it off right after the back passenger door? so it can pass smog.
