OK...this is the second time w/in the same amount of years that this has happened and I want to know if anyone else has had this prob.
My driver's side outer CV boot keeps slipping off the outer housing. About a year ago I tried to replace just the clamp...failed...took it to a garage and had the entire boot replaced (they told me it was a defect in the boot). Yesterday, I crawled (actually, I used a creeper) under the X and...guess....yep, same friggin' thing! Has this happened to anyone else? If so, is it recurring? I hate to replace the clamp and/or boot again (it's cheap, but time consuming) and right now it would have to be done in the driveway (which sux) since the paint booth's full and my roommates 69 Bronco is filling the other bay.

Interesting. There most be something binding with the boot. Does anything look different on that side compared to the other side?

nah...they look the same (as far as I can remember offhand) I'll scrutinize 'em when I get home and see if anything stands out as being different

mine had popped off once and i looked at it put it back on and clamped her down, then it came off again. i realized that i was not fitting the boot over the shaft housing and once i got it all the way on and clamped it i had no more probs. it might be that or maybe its the wrong size boot. they are a PITA to get off and on IMO:eek:

Do you think a big hose clamp would work better than a wimpy little boot clamp...they can be torqued alot more and have more surface area?

yes! i used a 6" hose clamp with the hex head screw and used a socket on my 1/2" drill to torque it down really tight.
did you notice a difference between the boot material when you replaced it? my stock was like a harder plastic and the replacement was a soft and flexile yet thicker rubber. i had to get a whole cv axle a few months ago. new one seems to be fine. and th eboot seems to be just fine.

I really didn't notice any major difference btwn the boots exept I do remember the new boot being alot more pliable than the old stock one...I'll slap in some grease and try out the hose clamp tonight...THANKS
