Need to replace the passenger side stub shaft (the middle one not the one into the difference or the one thru the knuckle). 94 ranger with threat motorsports 4.5" over beams. They want $325 for a custom shaft, not gonna do that. I read that 4.5" is the magic number to use d44 bronco shafts like here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206455&page=7

1. Does it matter the d44 doesn't have the slip yoke in the middle?
2. Are they always the same splines or is there something I need to look for?
3. I'd rather just replace the part I need (cheaper, easier, maybe), does anyone know the stock length of the sub shaft so I can compare it with mine? Thinking maybe the inner is lengthened and the stub shaft is stock.
4. If the stub shaft isn't stock and is lengthened, is there one that works that will slip in?
5. Better alternatives?

Does anybody know/or can measure for me the length of the "middle shaft"? I'll buy you a beer :D

Do you need the stock length of the mid shaft for a Dana 44 or Dana 35? I have spare Dana 35 shafts at the house I could easily measure...

Dana 44 TTB is going to be a different story.. I doubt many people here have it (if any) since people generally go from Dana 35 TTB to Solid Dana 44, not the TTB version.

Gotcha.. I'll try to measure it tonight.. I know I have a few in the shed plus the set I carry in the back of the explorer..

Here ya go..

I took 3 pics since the angles kinda change what the measurement "looks like".

Click on the pic to see the full size version of the picture.

The Shaft order is....
  • Top: Passenger side Mid shaft
  • Middle: Driver side outer shaft
  • Bottom: Passenger side outer shaft

Hopefully these pictures will work and possibly help someone in the future looking for the length of the Stock Dana 35 TTB shaft lengths...

Awesome thank you so much man! Unfortunately looks like the shaft I need is the lengthened part so a stock one won't work. Guess it's time to get out the welder unless someone can convince me a stock d44 ttb will work

So if anyone has this question, the d44 shaft did work. It was a half inch longer or so but there's more than enough room for it

Even at full bump/droop it's not too long?

When I had it jacked up from the axle the shaft was almost straight (so almost fully extended) and I could shove it in a couple inches. At full bump/ droop it won't be in the "shortest" position anymore

Hey @Maniak, any chance you want to sell one of the passenger inner D35 shafts?

Glad it worked. I wish I had better pictures in that thread with the tape measurer, but my camera wouldn't focus up close :/

And if your extended beams are long enough then you don't have to cut the end shorter. I had to cause my extended beams turned out a little shorter than they needed to be.
