Hi all. A little help needed. I have an 84 BII with 94 Explorer running gear in it. The diffs have 4.56 gears with the 8.8 having a minispool. My question is that I am trying to buy a locker for the front either Aussie or lockright(Aussie preferred). The problem is that Aussie does not make them for 94 and older models anymore. I can get one from ebay but they need to know if it is the large(1.616") bore or the smaller(1.558") bore. I have no idea and to take it apart is a problem as it is my daily driver. The #s on the housing are as follows. Dana P/N 610410 2, 19-May-94 3.73 std, F37A-3002-AAD, ser# 3940516240. Any help would be appreciated. The lockrite # are 2311 for small bore and 2310 for the large bore.
Thanks

Since someone already swapped in 4.56 gears, there is no telling what carrier they put in there with out taking it apart. What bore are they talking about? The cross shaft bore?

If its the cross shaft, there is no telling, spicer made two sizes. Actually 4 if you consider the different size of roll pins they used.

The bore they are referring to is the side gear collar size. As far as the carrier goes, I put the gears in but like a dumb ass I didn't think to measure it as a locker was not an option at the time. I was hoping someone might know so I didn't have to pull it apart to measure it then reassemble it waiting for the part to arrive then install it.

The side gear collar Size? They must be talking about the cross shaft bore. Hrmm....

I own two dana 35 carriers. both of them used the same size cross shaft, it was the considered the 'smaller' one from randy's ring and pinion.

But i remember the sizes being a little different #'s. They were like

2.25"
1.75"

Yeah taking everything apart to measure it, then to order parts to wait two weeks, to finally put it all back togeather is a drag... i know, i went through the samething with my Dana35.

I did one of the worse things you can do =) hehe, since i knew would be waiting for parts, i removed the third member and put the spindles and all the outers back on. I drove around those 2-3 weeks while i waited for parts, no problems what so ever. The third member is designed to take some stringent force from the beam, but aslong as you take it easy (and dont drive in any standing water or heavy rain for your hubs/bearings sake,) you can get away with it. Most people would not recommend this, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I was thinking about driving around without the diff in but all we have around here right now is rain and lots of standing water on the roads. I will have to bite the bullet and just do it. The side gear collar size is where the side gear hub sits in the housing. They made 2 different sizes even on the Jeep D35. Thanks for trying to help :chug:

Is this the spot you are talking about?

Using a die-grinder should take care of any 'clearence' issues.
