The instructions say to check the gap with a wire type gage and to be very careful adjusting the gap. I've also heard that you should never clean a platinum plug, is that true? I have never had to use platinums before, can they be damage that easy?

Most splugs don't have adjustable gaps anymore, you just buy the one that fits your model and that's it. I haven't heard anything about cleaning problems...problem with platinums is the tips last longer, so people leave them in the head till they are siezed up. They do that with a lot of plugs, but it's not a big deal as long as you change them every so often or check them at least.

Ford recommends that you clean and regap your spark plugs at 50000km... I think that's about 31000 miles. I would disagree that most plugs don't have adjustable gaps, Motorcraft plugs do, but plugs with multiple ground electrodes do not.

Clean, regap and reuse spark plugs? Not for me.

As much of a PIA it is to remove he plugs, I am gonna replace with new plugs; plugs are cheap.

I agree. I think it's more of a recommendation for those suit wearing types that just drive their cars and wait for a problem. I'm always a bit worried when removing plugs that have been in the head for over 100k like they say platinum plugs are good for. Atleast if the plugs have been removed and cleaned and anti-seized half way through their life expectancy, they may not be as difficult to remove.
