WHAT DID YOU SAY?!!?!?!?!?!?

I wonder if he has 1 hearing aid or 2?

Did i count 6 subs? that is a little overkill dont you think?

I saw that earlier today.. I must say thats a rather nice install, good work on the kicks and the MBQ components.. but for the most par the has bad selections of brands.. why get 6 JL12w3s when 3 audiomobile mass's could probablly d othe same SPL if boxed properly.. its a waste of hatch space

.. its a waste of hatch space

It may be a waste of space...but it looks awesome...especially with the way the amps are. I think the cargo over would still fit over it all too which would be cool. It's a nice install but 6 woofers is too much for me. SPL just isn't my thing.

Also all the black GTS plastic accessories look bad. I have never been a fan of "black-outs" or the bug deflectors. It would look better with a 4" lift and some 33's though!

ok some people seem to think that 2 woofers make the sounds 2 times as hard as an single woofer, unfortuantly this is not the case it works kinda like this

say the woofer has an sensitivity of 92dB

so :

1 woofer = 92dB
2 woofer = 95dB
4 woofer = 98db
8 woofer = 101dB

so 6 is between 4-8 so that would be

99.5 dB

ok now for the amp

1000 watts = 30dB
2000 watts = 33dB
4000 watts = 36dB
8000 watts = 39dB
16000 watts = 42DB

i don't know what his cabin dB's are plus i don't know what his flexes and leakage is ...

so you see double doesn't mean double ...kinda confusing ?

Terra Bomb what you said was a little confusing.

A theoretical way to find SPL would be to find the 1 watt in-car sensitivity of a sub in your car, then adjust for the number of subs and the amount of power, using these rules, double power = 3db gain, double cone area = 3db (with total power constant), double cone area = 6dd (with equal power applied to the other sub(s).

So with his equipment:
6, 12" W3's
2, Zx600ti's
The W3 has a sensitivity of 91.5 db/1 watt
The Zx600ti puts out 600 watts mono at 14.4 volts.

Theoretically he would put out 134.5 dB's before you figure in the cabin gain. Cabin gain is typically 18-24 dB's. So reaching 150 dB's with that set up is definately possible.

But you are right most people think that if you have 1 12" and add one more you are gonna double your SPL; that is definately not the case.

TerraBomb....

The dB scale is a logarithmic scale, and every 3dB increase IS actually twice the sound pressure. Your ears happen to interprate sound with the same scale, though, so it doesn't SEEM like twice the sound pressure. So, you are both right and wrong there...you are absolutely correct that double the speakers does not double the output, but if you are just going by numbers, you really are getting twice the sound pressure.

Explorer audio you are right. By adding another sub you will double the sound pressure but you are not going to double what a dB meter will read; which is all that really counts.

Steve

yeppers, the Dbmeter is what counts,

That's why those big guys that run like 170+ have like 9 12 or 15's with an high sensitivity , and as many amps as they can fit into an car.Ofcourse how more power you steer into an speaker the sooner it will blow, and that's why so many people blow woofers out on the 5 minut extreme challenge.....however i seen people that survived the gruwling 5 min without blowing anything...

you don't double the Db's, you double the AIR- movement with an double speaker wich is different.

It's all true! I once ran eight 12" Phoenix Gold subs in my CRX, but still competed in the 1-199 watt power class....hit 145dB (but that was back in the day, when that number was somewhat impressive :) ). When it came time to run the outlaw event, some kid with two 10" subs and a 1000-watt (real watt...not pyramid watt) amp beat me by .5 dB. Dammit.

:D

yeah you know...if nowadays your not close or over 165 Db's you don't hardly count anymore.....

dude i can remember when the worldrecord was like 142 Db's and that was with 9 15's...and if i'm not mistaken that was hi-fonics back then...but that's like hmm....about 10 years ago orso...
