While getting pricing on ball joints, I was told my front axle could be a Dana 28 or 35. How do I determine which axle I have? Hope it is the 35...ball joints for it are much cheaper.

92 thru 94 are all Dana35's.

Some 91's (very, very early ones) may have a dana28 in them.

So get the dana35's balljoints. Also - replace both the upper and lower when you do it - even if they don't appear to be bad. Cheaper, easier than doing it again in a few thousands miles, just to replace the one you thought was "good".

I cant say I have ever seen an Explorer with a Dana 28. when we bought our 91 the front axle in one we test drove was a D35 also. I think the Dana 28 was last used in Rangers and Bronco II but not Explorer.
