Hey all
My dash lights on my '02 Expy XLT went out all of a sudden. I checked the fuse closest to what I think is it and it's ok.

I installed a new stereo last week and there were 2 wires in the wiring adapter that conrtol the radio display, one is orange, one is orange with a white stripe (dimmer)... I hooked both to the orange wire ? I have the same radio in my 2000 Superduty, but I don't remember how I hooked it up. The radio diplay light dims in the truck, but not the Expy...

Any ideas ?

Thanks !

Scott

Maybe I checked the wrong fuse ? I checked the fues that says "gauges" ...I think is #21 ?

wire

I think you're suppose to just hook up the orange wire, not both. I'm sure your problem is just a fuse, But unhook that other wire first.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot this morning... I'll keep ya posted !

OK,

So I removed the stereo, clipped the illumination wires (both... illumination on the radio still works.) ...Checked the #21fuse (instrument cluster, compass, flasher coil) and it's fine. Next step, I removed and inspected all the fuses (whoever came up with the location of this fuse panel should be shot, by the way) and one was blown...the #16, (power mirror, security module (turn), manual climate control).

The odometer and compass illumination both work, just the dash gauge lights are out.

Any other ideas on what might be causing this ?

Thanks !

I also noticed...No tail lights, either...or parking lights. Brake lights, headlights, high-beams, turn signals, and hazzards all work though...I can't seem to find what fuse is for tail lights/parking lights ?

Anyone know ?

Thanks !

Scott

I got it figured out... Appears the #16 fuse under the hood was burned out. Strange, I took them all out and checked them and they were fine. Maybe I missed one.

Everything's ducky now !

Thanks !

Do you happen to think the illumination to illumination wire could be a culprit? I also wired in the dimmer wire but tore it back apart and pulled it out.

I think I was supposed to hook up the dimmer wire only...although I hooked up the illumination wire only. I had them BOTH hooked up, originally...That was the culprit. I'll eventually take it back out and hook up the dimmer wire, but I think I'll wait til it's a bit warmer out.
