I have looked everywhere for an answer to my question, even on the autopia detailing forums. Anyway, suppose I use 303 or vinylex on my dashboard. I have heard the horror stories of Armorall, but these aren't vinyl corroders like armorall is. Anyway, if I use 303 or vinylex once, but never reapply it again, will it crack and fade my dash once it wears off? I mean, my dash is starting to fade and I want to restore it.

Just no petroluem distillates in the dressing

303, Zanio, AmorAll, any that are a PDMS (polydimethalsiloxane) resin.

These are a white, milky color. The only real difference is the percentage of the resin. Some say "provides UV protection" stops/reduces harmful UV damage", the truth is what they do is to provide a temporary barrier that reduces plastizer loss from the vinyl. The increase the reflective values of the dash/vinyl so some or most of the UV's bounce off.

The old AmorAll was not safe, since it was loaded with petroluem distillates, these accerlate the loss of the plastizers.

The new one is like Mother's , Mequiar's, 303, etc, they are water borne PDMS resin dressings.

Since they are "dressings" that means they are not permenant, but sacrifical and require replacing on a regular basis.

Just be sure to clean them off about every third application by cleaning with any safe water based cleaner that you would use on vinyl, cloth or leather.

Ford has a Technical Tip on these sort of dressings, what and why, regarding not only the vinyl parts, but tires, leather etc on www.autoint.com under the OEM/TSB Section, then click on Ford Tech Tips, and learn what you can about what is real, not marketing of some product. The tip does not mention any brands, just give the facts.

If too shiny

If you are bothered by it be too shiny and reflecting back into your eyes. just wipe it on and wait 10 to 15 seconds under normal temperature conditions and wipe immediately with a dry towel.

There is very little difference in say 303, Zanio, ours, Mequiar's, Mothers, etc that are PDMS resin based dressings, just the percentage of the resin.

When you wipe it before it drys , you just take off some of the resin, but still leave some of it to bounce some of the rays off and still have a bit more gloss to the vinyl.

Why noy ise Armorall?

I use Zaino Z16; works great.

Give it a try.

Good luck.........

I just took a good look at my dash ( while cleaning the inside glass ) and noticed what appears to be a sticky ( well, almost sticky ) residue on the dash top. I have used Zaino Z 16 on it several times. It is not collecting dust or anything, just looks and feels funny.

Ideas?
