Help!!!!!

The interior lights on my RHD 98 Ex wouldn't switch off so as a temporary measure I took the bulbs out to stop the battery going dead. I had an auto electrician look at the car and whilst he was trying to sort out the lights the battery went dead. He tried jumping the car and now it seems that the immobiliser has kicked in and he can't get the car to start. Is there any way to bypass or reset the immobiliser?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Is the immobilizer OEM or aftermarket? When jump starting the vehicle the Immobilizer can get "reset" causing it to auto arm itself and immediately detect an intrusion and set off the alarm & disable the starter. Most AM alarms will have a toggle switch (valet mode) located under the dashboard. You must first insert the key and turn it to run, then toggle the switch into valet/mode. This will act as an overide and disable the alarm system.

Interior lights can stay on due to the dimmer switch being setup all the way to on, a defected door pin, or a problem with the computer module.

You have the standard PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System). This is where the key has a chip which is coded to the car. I guess the car memory has been reset. Not sure what you do here. Might be a contact Fords job. Do the remotes still work ?

What happens when you try to start the Ex? Does it turn over and not start? Does it not do anything when the key is turned to start. Does that Theft light flash or stay lit.

If it turns over and doesnt start then I think you have a PATS problem. Theft light should flash fast. If nothing happens (Theft light should stay on) then try unlocking the door with the remote. That should disarm the system. If you dont have a remote try using the keypad on the door if you have one.

Thanks for the info. I've passed it onto the auto electrician and hopefully he'll sort it out. I'll keep you posted.
