my radio dead, no lights, could be a simple power problem but anyway

i would like another stock radio with cd, mine cassette. the question is, are the pigtails the same bewteen years. if i junkyard it, do i need to cut the pigtail too?

Yes, I have not handled every radio in every year but generally speaking they are the same. You could always take your dead radio to the junkyard to compare.

This happened to me also. When I pulled it out, there was a burned spot visible where the output stage had failed and took it out. Local salvage yard had one for $40.
Ford part number for radio with CD and cassette is 2L2T-18C8L8-CA - Pull your radio and there'll be a similar number on the side. Just Google that number.

And there's always Evil-Bay too:

There are differences. I got a radio from the salvage yard for my son's '97 Mountaineer. The radios looked the same and the donor was also a '97 Mounty, but the pigtails and where they plugged in were different. Take your old one with you, or maybe a picture of it on your phone.
