OK so first of all, I've been searching on this forum for a while without finding anything about my problem, so sorry if this has in fact been asked and/or beaten to death. I also posted this in the Audio forum, but seems we're talking STOCK equipment and this forum seems to get more traffic I thought I'd post here as well.

I just bought 2 Ford explorers, a 98 and a 99. The 99 is the one I drive, the 98 is going to be either a parts rig or project, not sure yet. Anyway, both run and drive down the road. The 99 has an AM/FM/Cass/CD with 6 disc changer. I want to use the stock stereo so I can use the 6 disc changer, but I have no power to it. The fuse is good! The 98 has the exact same stereo so I figuired I'd just take that one, only that one has the exact same problem. No power and the fuse is good.

Any Ideas before I have to pull the stereo out, I have a nice Pioneer head unit, but it's a few years old and I'd rather use the stock unit so I can use the 6 disc changer.

Thanks in advance! :D

When you say no power at the stereo... what do you mean? Did you measure for power at the connector?

No, as I said in my first post I still have to pull it out. But I wondered if it was a common problem seems how I have 2 explorers with dead stereos. It's kinda wierd. I did buy the ford removal tools today and some night this week I'll pull out the stereo and see if I can figuire anything out. Is there a diagram anywhere that will tell me what pins are the power and ground for the harness and the radio?

Thanks for the extra info, one more question... did you check the TWO fuses in each vehicle? A meter is always good to check ALL power points in a connector as opposed to looking at a fuse. Having said that, a meter is also good to check fuses as people's eye usually can't see voltage and continuity very well....:-) Looking at a fuse is like looking a woman, she might look great but when you "put her to the test", she ain't no good.

I swapped out the mini fuse for the radio that's located at #29 in the panel on the far left of the dash. What is this other fuse you speak of? The radio is the only thing not working that I'm aware of. I'll have to dig out my multimeter to do some testing. Probably be a couple days before I get to it anyway

I only have 96 drawings... but there is a fuse 20... of course, each year usually has its own location (s).... but there is usually at least two "powers" for most systems.... one for memory and one for operation. In the "29", the drawing indicates that it is for the changer and which probably doesn't "mean" anything since the main system isn't powering.

Hmm, ok I'll well I'll have to look into that...Thanks for the tip
