I just did an oil change and noticed some small fragments
of what i think is metal in the oil. It almost reminded of gravel.
I can break up some of the peices with my fingers, it feels
like rusty metal. I noticed too that when the engine is running
and i get under the vehicle i notice a slight knocking noise
and in time with the engine.
Its a 97 EB v8 with 90,000 miles on it.

How old ( miles ) is the oil in which you found the :material? Also, the age of the filter?

What brand oil? Filter?

The oil is about 5000 it was due for its regular oil change.
The filter was also changed 5000 ago.
STP filter, castrol oil.

If it were mine, I would send in a sample for a UOA.

Good luck .........

Yikes! Not the best thing to hear...

There is an aftermarket piece that might work for you (or at least prolong the inevitable). It's a magnet that wedges onto the end of your oil filter. It traps any stray metal particles in the filter, and keeps them from circulating any further. There are also magnetic oil pan drain plugs. They hold any metal fragments and you can clean them off at each oil change. Just check someplace like JCWhitney. They'll probably have either.
