2015 Limited
Well guys, after much contemplating on which options my spouse and I want and what will match our current and future lifestyle, I'm happy to say we have decided to go with a 2015 Limited. We're adding a few extra options to make it perfect for us. We're gonna hit the dealership Sat morning and place the order. I am super excited since I haven't purchased a new vehicle in 12 years. Gonna take 6-8 weeks so I should have in late March/early April.

I'm use to driving a 1997 and 2003 Explorer and I know this new model is gonna ride very differently.

Congratulations on your decision on a new Explorer.
The deadline for ordering a new 2015 has passed, and ended Jan. 31st.
Now you can order a 2016, and wait until June, or the dealer can probably find a new 2015, just like you want.

I believe Peter is correct in that we can no longer order 2015's. I Took today off but I can check for you when I get on the computer later and let you know for sure. If you wanna let me know what exactly your looking for I can tell you if it exists or not and who has it.

So there are no orders on 2015's anymore? My local dealer searched for one, couldn't find it and said it would be an order. When I also spoke with a Ford rep, they said it varies from dealer to dealer. Either way, I'm looking for a Limited with 300A standard package with the addition of moonroof, roof rack crossbars, power liftgate and tow package with class III hitch.

Although the date to order a 2015 has passed according to the Ford production schedule (linked), my dealer told me a couple of weeks ago that they are still ordering them and have not yet been able to order the 2016 model. Not sure what is going on.:dunno:

NJExplorerFan, I'd check with your dealer just to make sure. Good luck.

Peter

Just order the 2016. You'd have to wait anyway.

I went from a 2003 XLT V8 to a 2014 XLT 4WD. Since then, my duck shooting has gone to crap and I've started watching the Lifetime and Hallmark channels. But, my wife says I'm more sensitive and I actually started listening to her...

I recently ordered a 2015 Explorer XLT, on Jan. 22, and they said that
each dealer has allotments or slots to build a new one. So maybe you
can still order one, only one way to find out, contact dealer.

I just checked a few days ago, and got a delivery estimate of March 12th.

I'll be sure to tell you guys how I like it.

Yes, please let me know when you're back on your computer.

2016s can be ordered through a back door process (old ordering system).

You are right! Compared to my Gen 3 & 4 Explorers, the 2014 is a little girly car! I hope I don't morph into Bruce Jenner while driving it! :(

That's because you didn't get a Sport. :)

After reading this, I cant get that commercial where the guy accidentally uses his wife's summers eve bodywash out of my head. :)
I picture you pulling into your driveway and then panicking to quickly right the situation by performing manly tasks.

As a previous owner of 04' and 06' explorers, I can say I wouldn't try and tackle some of the same mountain roads as I previously would have but the improved fuel economy, handling and technology of the 5th Gen model is something I can appreciate coming from the older model. Like I have said before, if I was looking to tow on a regular basis, or travel off the pavement frequently, my vehicle choice would have been different.

To the OP, Congrats on your decision to purchase another Ex!

Hey everyone, as an update, I went to my dealer yesterday and my 2015 order was placed. According to the dealer, 2015's are still indeed being built until Ford tells them otherwise. So, my new Ex should arrive in 6-8 weeks. Super excited!

Anybody interested in a 2003 V8? :-)

Congrats on taking the plunge, NJExplorerFan! PM me your order number and dealership name/location; I'll hook you up with weekly updates on your Explorer's status.

Crystal

I see you're from NJ. I would highly suggest you getting a 4WD. I lived in NC and it snow a few days out of a year. But, sad to say. This year I got stuck and it was embarrassing.

Thanks Crystal. I certainly appreciate it. I like that kind of visibility for sure. I will PM you.

Oh yes, 4WD is a must for me living in the northeast for sure. And I certainly can't drive my Mustang in the rain or snow.
