Hello everyone,

I have a 99 exploder and it has been the strongest truck I have ever driven. It has taken everything I have thrown at it, and kept moving. A few buddy's and I are going out to the Azusa canyon OHV area this weekend. My explorer is completly stock and Im worried about the creek crossings. I waded through one last week and its atleast two feet deep. Will this pose a problem for my truck? The depth doesnt worry me all to much, its whats laying in wait on the river bottom. I have 30 inch tires, while every one else has atleast 33's and 37's. Bottom line is, Should pass on this creek? Has anyone else done anything this deep in a stocky?

Jake

Not a great picture, but thats my truck.

fixed :D

do it...that is what recovery straps were designed for...:D

If you decide to cross some creeks, rivers, etc.. make sure you extend all your breathers: the rear diffy, transmisssion, transfer case, front axle. Extend them up into the engine compartment and near the filler neck for the rear diffy.. You don't want water in any component of your driveline.

you should probably get some tow hooks for the front and maybe back...

breathers? can you explain that to me and tell me how you would go about extending them?

Whenever you get in deep water, the biggest danger is the engine asperation water hydrolocking and destroying the engine. The air intake is behind the headlight. If it submerges the engine sucks water and you may very likely destroy the engine. I have destroyed one this way.

Pull the air filter today and make sure that you have not damaged it. Also check you fluids in the transmission, transfer case and differentials. If you have any water contamination, oil looks like cholate milk, replace.

Do a search for extending breather lines on the differntials. Also do a search on hydrolocking the engine, because sometimes you can prevent catostrophic engine failure by pulling the spark plugs. Water crossing can be fun, but require some vehicle modification and maintenence.

my exploder is pretty much stock with 31s and I made it through white trail @ Badlands (its flooded up here in IN). One portion of a trail we hit I had water up to my hatch glass from a drop off and my exploder tugged right through it!

so, i've flown through some puddles in my mounty where water shot up into the engine bay(i can tell by the mud) if i get the k&N intake system with the filter exposed whats that gona do if it gets wet?

If you engine intake sucks anything more than tiny amounts of water (an incompressable fluid) the engine will destroy itself due to hydrolocking. The engine will bend connecting rods, or valves. Trust me I know. Explorers air intake is just behind the passengers headlight, submerge it and suck water you will destroy the engine.

im just talking about flying through puddles like 6 in. deep where water splashes up, if i get a splash of water on the filter is it gona suck it in?

It is a good idea to check you air filter after you puddle. If enough water hits the filter at one time it will get sucked into the intake tube, and will cease to function, allowing other particulicates to enter the engine.

Where do the transfer case and transmission breather lines come out at? It leaves the transfer case and runs towards the front. Where does it attach to?
I rerouted the front and rear diffs, but the other two are still unknown?

Extend breather lines using rubber fuel line. Rear diff line can extend up to the gas filler spout. Zip ties work to keep them in place. Front diff, tranny and transfer case lines can be extended up into the engine compartment.

As they have stated, breather lines, tow hooks and modify your air intake to be higher in the engine compartment (K&N).
