Delete air conditioning

I've got a 99 2 door that will be used primarily for off road. I want to get rid of anything unnecessary, like the air conditioning system.
Can I just junk it and then run a shorter belt or will I end up with problems.
And yes it's snowing here this morning.

I have seen 'dummy' AC compressors on ebay. I think that would be a decent option to continue using the same belt. If you want to just remove it and run a shorter belt, make sure you won't be reducing belt wrap (amount of belt contact) on any of the other pulleys or accessories. I don't have a good visual of the belt layouts on either of the V6 engines.
