Detailing suggestions??

Hope this is the right area for this thread. I am looking for some insight on what waxes to use on a good paint job. I just had my 93 Explorer re-painted 3 months ago. As I stroll the detailing aisles I realize it has been alot longer than I thought since I shopped for waxes. There are so many different brands and price ranges that I dont have a clue what to use.

I am open to suggestions??

how can i remove thin scratches in the clearcoat on my hood? I hear that armorall makes like this substance in a pen that will get rid of them.

I like to use Meguiars. They have everything you need from waxes, paint cleaners scratch removers,etc. I've been using them on my mustang for a while now it works real good.

i just use the clay magic bar and then use meguiars wax. works great.

my dad uses that stuff in the blue bottle, cant think of the name....its really expensive, oh yeah its Zymol, it does a really good job, i only use the armor all carnuba wax, cheap does a decent job. as for all your scratches, why dont you just get it painted? yeah i know its a lot of $$$$

Take a couple of hours and read all their tips. There are many different products out there and everyone seems to like something different, so I won't make any recommendations coughcoughzainocough.

jas84, what you have on your hood is probably swirl marks. They can be removed with a polishing compound and a buffer. I recommend 3M products, and they make a product called Perfect-It Foam Pad Polish. There is one formulated for lighter paints, and one formulated for darker paints. The one for darker paints is part # 05996. There is also a new Perfect-It III machine glaze that is supposed to be awesome. I'm going to be trying that on my car next week.

Have fun man, and let us know how it goes. If you have any questions, give Sal Zaino a call. He's really cool and very helpful. Just wait until you start putting multiple coats on. That's when Zaino really shines (haha, bad pun, I know)! Oh, and make sure the surface is prepped correctly (dawn, claybar, etc).

I trust the BMW showroom guys, and all they use is Zymol everything. The stuff is amasing! It even takes out all of those deep horizontal off-roading scratches from bushes rubbing against the sides.

Actually, a wax will just fill in scratches, not remove them. Once the wax wears off, you'll see the scratches again. The only way to remove them is to use an abrasive product like 3M Finesse-It or Perfect-It.
