I am about to purchase a differential for my '94 4x Explorer. I have narrowed it down to the Detriot EZ locker or a Motorsport LSD. Price is about the same. I would love to hear from anyone who has either of these. The Detriot used the stock open housing and the Motorsport unit is a complete assembly w/ all the clutchs and side gears, etc, basically like a factory limited slip unit. Any experience with either of these on the trail? My truck is a five speed w/ 30x9.50x15 Pro Comp mud terrians, 3.27's, and not much else. Thanks for any input.

I found the stock LS even after a rebuild to be basically useless. I removed it and installed a No-slip. I don't have any experince with the Detroit model. I you still wanna go with the Ford LS I've got (for sale cheap) all the parts, including shims, s spring, spider gears, thrust washers, etc.

You may want to consider a Detroit Trutrack lsd. It use the helical gears not clutch pads. There are other manufacturers that use this technology. If it is a daily driver you should strongly consider lsd or selectable locker.

On average what does this cost? Part + getting it installed?

you can get a Powertrax locker (non-selectable) for about $240. Labor should be about $250 as well. I don't know for sure about the labor as I did mine myself.

I am getting the Powertrax unit for 299...lock right...I will be installing myself...I am a Ford mechanic...thanks for all your guy's input!

good luck.

well it depends on your mechanical ability, there was a guy that brought his mustang into where i work Wheel Works and asked out best tire guy how to lower his mustang.... He said he was a mechanic at the ford dealership..... something isnt right about a guy getting paid $20/hour for being a FORD mechanic coming to a tire shop and asking our $12.50 hour tire guy how to lower his FORD mustang.......

$500 Bones is alot, maybe my uncle can do it, he was a mech for years.

Installing a rear end is fairy simple...suspensions are even easier...esp. on TTB setups! By the way, the worst part about lowering a Mustang is getting the old front springs out.
