Out bumping with my new Alumapro Alchemy 6 ohm DVC today, and I floored it and all of a sudden it shuts off. I think the power cable came off the battery, but it didn't. Anyway, I check everything, ground, power, and made sure the remote wire was connected at both ends. Everything seemed to be fine. I tried a different ground location, checked the fuse. I unscrewed the remote wire on the amp, then plugged it back in, and for a brief second the power light on the amp came on, then it shut off. Anyway, it's not a very good amp, it's the one in my signature below, so I shouldn't be running a 3 ohm load on it, but it seemed to do fine. Anyway, should I touch the power and ground wires together to make sure it's getting power? I know I'll have to buy a new fuse. Also, how do I test if the remote wire on the headunit is sending power? THanks

Use a voltmeter to test both the battery cable and the turn on lead... The turn on lead is just a low current +12V signal, so just use a voltmeter to measure it the same way you would the battery cable. Did the amp get hot? I've known a few buddies with amps that kick into thermal protect CONSTANTLY (neither of my RF's ever have, neither has my Alpine, so it varies from amp to amp). The amp doesn't have an internal fuse that could have blown, does it?

I don't think it has an internal fuse. And I don't even think it has a thermal protect feature. I'll contact JBL tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Hmm, it's possible. Same thing happened to my system and I haven't figured it out yet. Hopefully it's not blown because that was a $500 amp.

Any chance this is related to your recent, ah, fire? ;)

did you check the fuse on the remote lead from the headunit. it's possible that the 3 ohm mono load was too much for the amp. if that's the case, the damage is internal and is probably fatal. i opened up a friend's power acoustik amp after he had a 2 ohm mono load on it. the circuit board had little burn marks on it and the capacitors were dead.
i hope this isnt the problem with your amp, because it will be cheaper to buy a new amp than repair it.

I think that's the car audio motto. It's always cheaper to buy a new one then to repair the old one.
