coming down my driveway last night, i found out that it was a sheet of ice, the hard way. i went for a little spin, but finally stopped, i am very lucky i didn't hit any of the trees surrounding my driveway. i was going very slow, lucky me.

i had to put it in 4 wd low to get back to a position to be able to get out of the middle of the driveway, i was totally across it i went about 1/4 of the way around a circle.

this morning when i got up, i turned the dial to manual. i guess my light on the guage cluster is broken because it was never on in the first place. when i started to drive, it made some funny noises. i went up about 4 hills, decent sized ones, and hit speeds of about 50 mph. i went about 4 miles before i turned down the music because i noticed the truck not shifting right. i had to hit some back roads before i opened up on the highway so i wasn't really driving all that fast to start.

i was wondering what type of damage i might have done and if there is anything i can do to undo it. i need a comfort of mind i guess, because after i figured this out, she ran fine. i just hope i didn't do anything too horrid :(

Kelli

ps, thanks in advance

i dunno. ask doug.

Were you still in 4low the next morning? When you used the 4low were the tires able to slip or did the diff bind and pop?

to me it does not sound like you where in 4low to start with

put it in neutral with the brake on and shift to auto. then unplug the battery for 15min. it may have thrown a tranny troubble code is the od light blinking. also drain the transfercase fluid it should be bright red

but from what it sounds like it was just the control track kicking in

when i decided that something was wrong, i pulled into a parking lot and the car was binding as i was turning into a parking space, so i backed off the gas and then turned the switch back and forth between manual and 4X4. still nothing...then i did it as the car was rolling and it clicked off.

i was in 4 low in the morning because i didn't turn it back to manual the night before because i figured that i would have trouble backing out of the driveway. so when i got to the top of the driveway, i turned the dial, so i thought i put it back into manual.

hope this helps pin point what happened :(

thanks for the replies
Kelli

you're welcome. :p

were you in neutral when you put it IN and OUT of 4 Lo? I believe 4HI you can switch while in Park or even driving under 5mph, but 4Lo you need to be in neutral....

4 hi can be switched at any speed

Pretty unlikely you were in 4 lo. 50 mph ? No way. You were just in 4WD (hi). I've forgotten to switch out of 4wd and driven as you describe - everything was fine.
