Two weeks ago I put in a battery from an old Crown VIc into my wifes Sidekick. Now her car wont start as there is no spark going to the Distributor. I was wondering if putting the larger battery in could have fried the ignition coil? Sorry for not being an explorer question but its doing fine, knock on wood. Its just that you guys are the best .Thanks.

The only difference between car batteries is the amperes available.

Because amps are drawn by the load, not forced from the battery like volts, a battery change can't damage the system.

Switching to higher amps may make things like the starter run faster. But lights, accessories, ignition should not be affected.

Switching to lower amps will probably make the starter run slower.

My first guess is your ignition coil has failed or perhaps a main engine fuse has blown. Not seeing the car it's hard to be more specific.

Much appreciated, thanks. BTW fuses are okay.

if it is an old battery it may simply be dead did you try jumping it this happned on a friends chevelle it cranked fine but not enoughf volts to fire the plugs

Thanks guys. Turns out its a short of some kind. The wires around the ignition module and coil were very greasy/oily. I cleaned them off and straightened some. Then it started. The only thing is I dont know which connection is the problem now.
