I think I reversed my cams!!

I am replacing my timing chains. Had to take off the heads too (long story).
Anyway, I was putting everything back together. Crank at TDC and dot on crank gear at 6 o'clock. Cams are lined up with the keyways 90 degrees to the top of the head. Everything right. I then installed the some of the rockers and then rotated the crank it stuck, interference between a valve and piston.

While the crank sits at TDC, the intake lobe on #1 cylinder is pointed down (open). This can't be! At TDC both valves should be closed right?
Again at TDC, both lobes on cylinder #5 appear to be in positions that would be closed.

During all the camotion, I could have mixed up the cams.

Question: How can I tell which cam is which? Right vs. Left?

Thanks

Often part numbers will be stamped in the ends of camshafts. Maybe there is an R and L along with a part number??:dunno:

After pulling them back out I found the markings on the side. I then looked up the numbers and here is what I found:

LH: 1L2E 6A274 CA
RH: 1L2E 6250 DA

Got 'em swapped out and everything is going back together well.

Thanks

Glad you caught it before you tried to crank it over with the starter!:chug:
