Just wondering if they had a manual t case in the 95+ years. My electric one is starting to piss me off.It shifts slow if it even shifts. GOes into 4 low and takes a long long time to shift out. I was just wondering if I could swap in a manual shift one or just stick in a bw1354 manual from an earlier explorer. What could i do about shifter linkage?

No a manual transfer case was not available in the second generations.
And yes the BW1354 is the transfer case of choice to swap in.

What would I do for linkage? As iun mounting the shifter?

You cut a hole in the floor.

I think one of the bolts on the BW1354's shift bracket doesnt exactly line up with one of the mounting holes on the transmission's tailshaft housing, but I'm sure your creativity and a drill or an angle/die grinder can find a way around that ;). Again, this problem exists only for the smaller bolt -- which is I think like a 1/4" diameter bolt. The bigger bolt lines up perfectly on the tailshaft housing.

OK..So I can just get a 1354 from a ranger or older explorer and use it with its shifter. Can I swap my from drive shaft flange from my 98 to the other 1354? Thanks for the info:salute: Or do I have to get new d shafots or modify them?
