Hello!
I´m new to this fantastic forum and on the hunt for a Ford Explorer!
So far I´ve seen to possible purchases; a -96 HighClass and a -98 XLT.
Both have 4.0 liter v6 engines but the -96 is more well equipped.
And now I just want to know if there are any major differences or changes between them
They both look great I think and they seem to be equally used/worn,
the -96 has gone 14.000 mil (metric syst.) and the -98 has gone 12.000
and the price is clearely in favor of the -96.....
They are both imports from germany, but the -98 has been in Sweden for a longer time so it was alot more rusty under.
Can someone please help me a little?

if you´re only gonna refer to the search option you might as well not write anything.... ;)

they could possibly have different 4.0 litres

is the 98 a sohc 4.0?

otherwise they are going to ve very similar in my opinion

yep...quite certain it is...thanks for your quick reply!
Any big difference between those engines?

The 98 might have the SOHC motor, you can identify which one you have by the engine cover. If you decide to get the 98 and it has a SOHC motor, you'll have to deal with certain recall issues and getting the parts for it. I know off hand that alot of the members from the UK had problems getting the part numbers for the SOHC's recall campaign 00M12. Whatever choice you make, you'll be happy. I have a 97 and thought about trading it up in the past for a 2000 but I decided not to after realizing how much of a payment I would have to make in contrast to having only to pay insurance and maintance related costs.

Okay, so there might be problems with the -98 if it has the sohc engine...wonder why the auto-dealer didn´t tell me about that :nono:
However he did tell me that he got the wheels replaced for free because they were dangerous somehow...appearently they exploded or something
This sure is a living forum! thank´s for the help guys!
