Does anyone know the exact difference between a 98 and a 99 4.0 OHV? Is there a physical difference, or just an emissions exempt issue. For example, my K&N FIPK said up to 98, but it fit my 99 just fine. Will the 98 headers fir a 99 or is ther esome mechanical difference? Thanks.

PS. I did a search and got a whole lot of nothing.

I don't think there are any changes. The aftermarket companies just say xx-98 because the vast majority of 4.0s after that were SOHCs. To be honest with ya, most Explorer owners don't know the difference in engines and thus those aftermarket recommendations.

BTW, headers definately are not the most cost-effective mod and can actually reduce low-end torque at the expense of some highway ponies. I personally don't think they're worth it on a later OHV.

How about with supercharging? Are they worth it then? would imagine so because of the increased airflow. Did they help much with yours?

if you're on the s/c route, then get the headers. with the s/c you want the least restriction possible.
