others. My 2000 Merc Mountianeer has a CD/Cassette HU. It also has speakers in all the doors and one more in the Hatch area. How can I tell which system I have?? Are there any tell tale signs? My guess is that it has the lowest systen but that is just a SWAG.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you said you have a subwoofer in the cargo area? So a total of "5" speakers, right? If so, then you have a MACH system. If you're looking for a replacement, find one that is a Ford/MACH HU. The difference is that the premium sounds system doesn't have a crossover to filter out the low frequencies (bass) to the subwoofer so if you get that, then your subwoofer won't work.

Thanks for the info. I do have a total of 5 speakers. I was unsure because my HU does not say Mach on it and I thought it was supposed to.

Also should I be getting pretty decent bass out of the sub in the back? I don't think I get anything.

Thanks again,

Sam

It doesn't say it. So when you're looking, look at the label. The label will state if it's for a 4-door Explorer with MACH equalization or something like that.

Oh, awesome. Thanks for the additional info.

Sorry to hit you with so many stupid questions but this is my first Explorer. Just getting used to it.

Thanks again.

It's no problem. That's what we're here for. :) Good luck!!

Well, I have examined my Mountianeer further and determined that I do have the Mach Audio. The only problem is that I think the bastages that sold me the truck took the rear speaker out. I turned on the stereo and crawled into the back and pressed my ear up to the rear speaker and heard nothing. Is it supposed to be really quiet?

If in fact I am missing the rear speaker should I try and replace it with stock? Is there a reasonable aftermarket unit that will be better and fit in the same place???

Thanks again for any help!

Later,
S.
