Is there any difference(s) in the rear leaf springs from the Towing Package and the Non-Towing Package equipped Explorers ??

My 98 has the Towing Package and rides like a tank. Since I do no towing what-so-ever with it, I would really like to soften up the ride.

Suggestions please ??

Wow.... Then what does the "Towing Package" consist of then ??

Towing package on your explorer should consist of a factory hitch, aux transmission fluid cooler for automatic transmissions, and a limited slip (posi) rear differential. There should also be a trailer wiring harness under the passenger taillight (behind the bumper) I beleive.

Roger that.

So.... NO difference(s) in the suspension parts (spring rates/shocks) then ???

Correct. No differences in springs, shocks, or other suspension parts.

My 98 came with something called 'Trailer Tow Prep' which I assume is different from the 'towing package' you are asking about. Trailer Tow Prep came with the aux tranny cooler and the wiring for a trailer terminating under the driver's side tail light.... no factory hitch, limited slip (I have an open diff) or changes in any suspension parts.

My 01 has everything you listed, just no hitch. The wiring harness is still sealed in the factory bag in the side pocket.

I got my '97 AWD V8 with the trailer package. It did *not* include the hitch, so I made the dealer have one put on, so I didn't have to deal with it. It did have the trailer harness under the bumper, that you plug the pigtail into (which was included), the tranny cooler, and limited slip. I added Bilsteins, and it tows much better now. Upgraded brakes would be nice.
