All,

I'm in the midst of refurbishing a 2003 Merc. Mountaineer. (V8 AWD) Did all the front suspension and put in a new viscous coupling and chain the xfer case. Got it on the road and found out the rear diff was toast...had suspected, but never had a chance to drive it with the other issues it had when I got it. (Prior owner ran two different brand tires and they were severely worn and cupped, so it rode horrible and they had toasted the vc...another story!)

So I got the rear diff ready to install. Only issue, when I removed the old, I found out the vent hose was broken off on the diff case.

I just pulled out the plastic piece from the diff, and it sheared off right where it comes out. The rest is in the rubber vent hose.

CAlled dealer, and it's $5 but can't have it till Tuesday. Was hoping to do the rear suspension (got new wheel bearings pressed in the knuckles ready to go) done and install this diff and have it alinged Monday.

This $5 part is gonna keep me grounded :( Anyone have this happen and find a suitable replacement at a local parts store? It's not threaded, and I don't want to risk it falling out and leaking out fluid on a brand new built diff.

FYI this is a non-LSD differential.

Thx in advance!

Sucks being delayed, guess I'd just be happy with it only being a $5 part and not $30.

A panel clip will work in a pinch.
