Ok, heres one where even I'm stumped. I'm debating on buying a Rockford Fosgate bd1000a1 to power my Mac Daddy 10". I was wondering if anyone here has worked with digital amps. The thing is tiny for the power it cranks out. 1000 watts at 2 ohms, or 500 at 4 ohms. It's crazy. I don't imagine there would be any real diffrence, just wanted to ask the crew...

I believe that you are referring to "Class D" amplifiers. They are incorrectly labeled as "digital" amplifers.

Due to the class D amplifer architecture, there make a butt load of power while drawing half the current of a typical classs A or AB amp.

I've used the MMats D series of amps. The High Current versions porduce 1200 watts of power. They are fantastic sub amps. You can hammer your woofers all day long, and the amp will never get hot to the touch.

Class D amps are very efficient, but due to their design, they should only be used for subwoofer applications. Class D amps sound aweful on mids and highs.

Check out the MMATS amps. You'll be very pleased. They have been building these amps for years. I believe their "Juggernaut" van still holds the world SPL record. (I haven't checked in a while)

bass it up!!!

Actually, they were dethrowned this year! I just got back from the IASCA finals in Oklahoma City. So thats what that hidious is.

what's the new SPL record?

???

When I visited Virginia Tech I talked to a guy who has a Jeep Cherokee with 2 15" subs (I forget the brand). I do remember what type of amp he has: Crossfire. Each sub get 8,000 watts RMS. He told me he has 11 world records in SPL. He consistantly hits 170+ dB. The awesome part of it all is that from out side the Jeep it is almost silent, not quiet I mean you can hardly hear anything at all. He worked for Volvo helping develop the new tractor trailor rigs, specifically on noise control or something like that.

This years winner his 178.5 if I'm not mistaken. I was disapointed to see Alma didn't compete, but I did get her to sign my Kicker shirt (Diamond Rules!). I'm heading to the USAC World Finals here in 2 weeks.
