For no apparent reason my '93 X keeps on dinging, the sound it usually makes when the lights are left on or the seat belt isn't fastened. For the most part when I take the keys out with the door open it will keep dinging, the lights are off, but then some times it's normal. What could be causing this?

your ign switch is jacked up, it isnt settling in the complete proper position that is should be in
mine does it all the time....

Jimabena has it dead on. Sometimes the key collar is not seating in the right spot after you take the key out. Try turning it backwards a bit after taking out the key.

In two of my families X's, the key can be pulled out while running! That happens when the collar is messed up.

mine started out that way.... then one day i tried to run it... the outside turned but not the inside.... the key snapped off in the ignition.... it has been that way for over a year now..... now whenever it gets turned it starts..... if you dont belive me ask the los coyotes april 2001 group... they will attest that i started my truck all weekend with a screwdriver

I have the same problem with my 93; you'll have to replace the switch if you really want to get rid of the "ding ding ding". If you turn the silver ring slightly you can see the part that activates the "ding". I just make sure to set the Silver ring in the correct position(until it really drives me nuts)ya know $$$ for the Ignition switch.
