I just recently got my '98 explorer Eddie Bauer edition v6 SOHC and it had troubles idling so i read around and realized it was clearly my iac valve..so i cleaned it out but my question is do i have to clean the other part as well? Also how will i go about cleaning it? It looks pretty dirty but i don't want to wreck anything.
This is how dirty it is.

This is how dirty my finger got just from barely touching it.

Fixed your photo size by the way, you just add an "L" at the end of the link before the ".jpg" when using Imgur.

Get a can of this, thoroughly spray that IAC Valve, and allow it to dry before putting it back on. May require a few cleanings. Also, clean the Mass Air Flow sensor right after the filter in the air intake.

MAF Sensor Cleaner

I thought you had to use throttle body intake cleaner on the iac valve? Not sure what the difference is but while you are messing with that area i cleaned my throttle body with the intake cleaner cuz the gas pedal was sticky but I was surprised how dirty it was

MAF sensor cleaner is similar to electrical contact cleaner and is ineffective at cleaning carbon and varnish deposits.

IAC valve cleaning is easier using throttle body or carburetor cleaner with a small stiff bristled brush. Soak, then scrub.

But still how do you go about cleaning the intake manifold side of where the IAC valve bolts up to? Because I changed my IAC and still revs a little high on my 4.0 SOHC but luckily this time it's not throwing any codes.

brake/parts or carb cleaner works fine for the IAC valve (and it's cheaper) but use only MAF cleaner on the MAF sensor.
