Thanks for looking in -- I'm trying to find out where the (beeping or chiming alram) is?....that notifies you when the air bag has problems or door ajar etc. Someone has taken out the air bag light so the alarm goes off repeatedly and I'd like to disable the "NOISE"! Thanks

Why not just replace the bulb? Although, it should not beep just because a bulb is burnt out...what symptoms are you experiencing?

As you probably know the bulb has to be re-sautered into place and that will be a hassle for me. The code is B2299 if I remember correctly which is the "pretensioner" -- I've tried the wiring harnesses, cleaning etc, but still getting this annoying repetitive alarm. Would like to know where to find the alarm so I can disable it. Thanks

The pretensioner is where you buckle in your seatbelt... Start by removing seat and check harness; usually the prongs get worn/bent in and dont complete the circuit...

There's a tsb and part to fix issue with early model pretensioner....(replaces where you buckle in all together with a new one)

Thanks for the info -- I've tried the harness etc -- Trying to find out where the alarm is located?

Sautered? You mean soldered? If so I don't think so... Just replace it

Anyone know where the (alarm, beeper, chimer) is located -- noise seems to come from instrument panel. Thx

First, the bulb is not the culprit, the pretensioner is. Second, the bulb is not soldered in, it is a twist-in style 194 bulb from what I recall.

Yes, the chime is in the dash. It is tied into all of your indicator noises, though...are you sure you do not ever want to hear when it is beeping at you for important reasons?

Is this the same chime device that goes off when you start the engine up or when you leave the keys in the ignition and open up a door? If so, where exactly is it located behind the dash and do you know if it can be turned off thru the programming functions, unplugged or removed safely, without causing any other issues for having unplugged it or turned it off? I would like to get rid of this chime because at engine start up, the chime keeps me from being able to hear the sound of the engine, listening for any knocks etc. It is also a chronic nuisance noise when you open the door with the keys in the ignition and the engine is off. For these reasons I can do without this chime device, but if it is the same/only chime device that sounds off for more critical issues with the vehicle, then I'll have to live with it. Thanks for any info!

Thanks for the help....but does anyone know where to find the chime? The bulb unfortunately is not a twist in but needs to be soldered and I really don't care about fixing the pretensioner....but "just" trying to find out where the CHIME is. Thanks again for the help!

Johnny, I'll add that I am also looking for information on disabling the chime. I know folks here are trying to be helpful, but it seems everyone wants to question your motives. I hesitate to provide the reason i want to do the same on my 08 Explorer. So if anyone has this information please supply as the chime is very annoying. I did read of a procedure to disable the chime for seat belt that involved key turns and switching on/off items, but was unable to get it to work.

After serious diagnostics at the dealer for and RSC chime ($120 to diagnose, $140 for the abs sensor and another $120 for sensor install)...really a 5 minute job and I performed all the same..i still have the light and chime going off after a few miles of driving...suspect a short, but I'm not paying those rates for a day to track it down...

Ok, what was needed here is a chimectomy. I was able to remove the lower dash panel under the steering wheel (2 screws), the upper dash panel above the steering wheel (2 screws) and the instrument cluster (4 screws). This is connected to 1 plug which can simply be unclipped (has a lever lock). Once that was out a plastic cover on the back of the cluster was unclipped exposing a chime/speaker unit. A little clip of one of the leads disables the chime. I'm sure a bit of solder could reverse the process. This was pretty simple and terminated the annoying chime. In my case the mysterious problem still exists and will need to be located. Dealer thinks it is a short. Please keep in mind the chime for the seat belt, door ajar and even the blinker sound no longer sounds. It is actually quite nice and peaceful..and the visual alerts are still present.

Thanks for the info! I'd pulled the cluster before but didn't see what I thought to be a chime. There is alot of relays etc on back of cluster -- What should I be looking for -- If looking down @ the back of the panel, which side etc? Thanks again

What year vehicle of yours did you do this to, the 1995 or 2008 Explorer? The chime in question was for 2002-2005 model years. Don't know if they are the same for all model years. From what has been said in here about this chime, is that it is the same chime for ALL of the dashboard warning devices. Did cutting this chime lead also stop the "engine start up" chime that occurs right after you start the engine? I can really do without that one, can't hear the sound of the engine right at start up. I hear you on the nice and peaceful thing. Why the need for loud, nuisance chimes when you have dash icons for each device and a message board/center to notify you of an issue or problem. Thanks for posting up that info.

J$hort can you provide more info on where the chime is -- I've looked extensively in and around the cluster panel for anything that looks like a chime/speaker etc w/ no luck. I'm working on an 03 model. Thanks...and anyone please "chime" in!

On my Ex, I see what looks like horizontal speakers slots cut into a small section of dashboard panel along side the steering column on the right hand side. I'm not 100% sure this is where the chime is located because I haven't pulled the dash apart as of yet, but it looks like this is the place for the chime, which would explain the speaker like slots in the dash panel for sound to travel through.
