I need to disconnect the automatic door locks. I just got my 99 Explorer. The doors are locking every time I get out or turn the truck on and it's driving me crazy! I REALLY don't care to have the air bags functional either. Is there a way to disarm them? I'm a small person and prefer to take my chances other than be smothered by an air bag! All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sally

THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH BuffaloXplorer. Adjusting to the Explorer after having a Bronco for 15 years has been a real adjustment. Taking care of the little thngs makes it much nicer! Have a great day. Sally

Sound like you got the locks figured out. As for the airbag question, I wouldn't mess with it. If you really sit close to the wheel and don't want them active, there is a program through the Ford dealers where they can install a de-activation switch for the driver's side. After you sign some paperwork of course. ;)

Thank you Kfkodiak! I will contact the dealership where I got the truck. I had put off getting a different truck as long as possible, because I really didn't want air bags. Driving my 76 Trans Am ( with blower set up) without air bags hasn't hurt me, so I doubt driving an Explorer without them will be a problem! I know I'll feel safer. Sally

You're welcome. The dealer I use sent out a newsletter a couple years back that said that could be done. I'm not exactly sure what the process is, but if the dealer won't do it, I'd call Ford customer service and see if they can tell you who can. Good luck.
