I had a hard time getting my toe link off and in the process tore the rubber part and the grease oozed out. Do I need to replace the whole rod or would I be ok trying to fill it wil more fluid and some how try to seal it?

if i look closely it looks like the bottom of the rubber is starting to dry rot too . . . is it one piece or by chance can you just replace the end? Tie Rod Ends? They usually run about 10-20 bucks, if you got one close enough you could just use the rubber maybe?
Cheapest can you pull the boot off? Might be able to replace just that, but from the looks of it it might be time to replace, how loose is the joint?

i'm with you i hate to buy the whole thing just to fix the rubber part, but depending on the miles, cost, availability etc, imo i'd go new.

For the price of a new unit, I would simply replace the entire thing. By the way, don't try to go real cheap on this part. Look for a decent, well known name brand part. Moog being possibly the best. Try NAPA, advanced auto parts, robbins or the like. Avoid autozone and the "flashy automotive supermarket" style stores.

I have one that looks exactly like yours.
Makes you cuss out loud don't it?
I just recieved my new one that I ordered online but I don't remember who I ordered it from.
It was around $111.00 for the whole link.
I can look when I get home if you need to know.

Wow! >$100 for the whole arm?? Damn!!!!

I think I'll see about improvising! As far as I can tell the suspension is just fine so I hate replacing stuff that doesn't need it! The car has been demoted to winter snow driving and hauling stuff. Other than that, it isn't going to be used much!

Maybe I can find a similar rubber bushing! I can't even find the part on RockAuto!

Maybe I have to go though the dealer?

Jim

I couldn't find it at RockAuto either. I forgot to look last night to see who I got it from. It was some Ford parts direct site. I didn't check to see how much it was at the dealer.
I don't know if i'd try to improvise. If that part fails going 70mph things are going to get real ugly!

I got quoted $145 for the part.. so if you can tell me where you got it for
$111, I'd appreciate it!

I finished the quick struts and man the back of my car is high! Big change from the broken ones that were in there! But I saw that I need new rear breaks! :(

OH well..

Jim

Yea, that's the same thing I was doing. It will settle a lot after you drive it a while.
I'll find out tonight where I got the part.

If you replace it is about $200 + and you have to know which size, their are 2, because if you have to replace the knuckle you have to get the bigger size. It is about $400 t0 $500 in parts for both. Becare full of auto zone becuase they only offer 1 size I believe.

certifiedfordparts.com
The entire link assembly is $115.18 plus shipping.
I got it in about 4 days.

Why do you need to replace the entire arm? Just replace the tie rod end for <$50.

Where? I can only find the whole arm listed as a part?

I'd love to just replace the tie rod end!

sadly, Those are just for the front. Not the rear.. unless I'm missing something?

No, I'm the one missing something. I didn't read closely enough and thought we were talking about your fronts. Sorry for the confusion.
