As per the title it is not a good color choice for hiding chips, I got my first one yesterday and unlike my other cars which were white or Silverish underneath, this is black. It is hard to look at the hood and not see the chip! My poor baby is now scarred for life!

Get Touch Up Paint

To say don't get the white due to chips is kinda ridiculous, odds are any one of the cars won't look great though if it's a black primer, darker colors obviously will be better.

There are quite a few eBay sales with the white platinum touch up paint. It's usually one of my first purchases for any new car. I hope I won't have to use it soon, sorry you need to though. I think the tri-coat white is a gorgeous, clean and cool color!

I picked up the Platinum White touch up paint from the dealer when I had the rear bumper protector installed. It cost me $10.17.

I personally only went with the white because I thought it would hide chips and that better. So I am just saying if that is the sole reason for another person who is wanting white I would not recommend it. I am going to try the touch up paint. I have had it for my accord and it just never looked good when ever I used it. I just hope I will hide it enough so that once my clear bra is on it will not stand out so much.

That is one of the reasons I chose the white. As far as using the touch up paint, it never does really bring it back to perfection. I had a stone chip on the hood of my former Highlander shortly after I got it and tried touching it up. I wasn't happy with the job and knew it would bother me so I took it back to the dealer and had the entire hood repainted.

How much did it cost for the hood to be painted? I am getting a ventureshield put on so I want it to look good under the shield!

Repaint will never be as good as factory robot finish.

That is why I clear bra as much of the front end as I can. We get gravel put on the roads all over in the winter. Good luck with the fix.

On the positive side, the imperfections in any touch-ups on white will be much harder to see than on any of the other colors.

Check out this site, (drcolorchip.com). I bought it for my white Lincoln Navigator and this stuff works great. I have black primer under the white also and this stuff covers it. Apply it the way they tell you in the instructions and you'll never know you had a chip in that spot unless you look for it. I've done so many chips on my truck that I can't even find where they were anymore and it lasts. Did a few chips 3 yrs ago and still no problems.

Where did you find the rear bumper protector? I've had my Ford parts guy on the lookout for me and no word yet.
My dogs have already scratched the paint with their nails getting in and out.

I had the dealer order it since he did not have it in stock. It is a Ford accessory and has Explorer written on it.

Here is the link to to the rear bumper protector from the Ford Accessories site, http://www.FordAccessoriesStore.com/GfaWeb/catalog.do?prodInfo=Explorer~2011~BB5Z_17B807_A. As peterk9 mentioned, it does have Explorer written on it. Let me know if you have further questions.

You guys may want to try the clear film for those with lighter colors. Did my silver with it and it looks great or should I say hardly be seen.
