There are some of those devices available that you can supposedly install in your ford Explorer to increase gas milage. I've been considering purchasing and installing one in my 2000 ford explorer sport SUV.

Has anyone here used them? Do they work? Or should I NOT waste my time and money?

Thanks

What kind of devices are you speaking of? If you are talking about that Tornado piece of crap, save your money. There's a link floating around here somewhere that talks about it. It does nothing for power or mileage.

I'm also a plumber.

If it is a device that claims to gain you mileage, it probably doesn't do crap. I don't know which item you are talking about, but I don't need to. Save your money.

you wanna test a tornado, just make one with a can and see how good it is. Maybe you should just turn in the soda can and get your 5cents instead. I have read a couple of tests that resulted in no gas or hp improvement.

Magnets don't work either. Especially just one on the fuel rail. I believe the theory is you’re supposed to have a negative side of magnet adjacent to the fuel rail, and then have a wide thin magnet over your air box or intake with the north side adjacent to it. So now your air and fuel is supposed to mix better with the charged air when they combine in intake. I haven’t found a pancake sized magnet that I can afford yet to test this yet.

if your talking about those resistiors on ebay that say you get 10 more hp and 5 better mpg......no dont even think of buying it.

Sorry for getting back to you so late, I have been out of town. After reading all the various post I'm just about convinced such a device does not exist. Nevertheless, I have never heard of Tornado or the resistors the other fella was talking about.

One of the devices I was referring to was the "Vortex Valve". There is more info about it at this link:

That looks exactly like the tornado, so no, it won't help mileage.

By the way, that resistor that is supposed to increase gas mileage in only a plain resistor inline with the ECT sensor to trick the computer into thinking that your engine is running cold when it is still hot. Here is a resistance chart:

I'm surprised that some company is making a copy of the Tornado without infringing on any patent rights. They are the same price as the Tornado too.

Quite possibly the same company operating under another name since the Tornado name isn't the most desirable.
