I have been thinking of changing all the fluids with Royal Purple, but beyond that I cant seem to find any sites with '06 specific mod's for the 3v V8. Also, whats the absolute best oil filter to use???

You will get a lot of different answers to the "best oil filter" - I'd say K&N and Amsoil, then NAPA/wix filters, then your random Motorcraft/fram/etc. filter.

To increase gas mileage do what you can - air up tires, change your air filter, change ur fluids, run less accessories. I read an article the other day that made a lot of sense - i will have to find it.

Intakes, exhaust, chips usually cause an MPG increase. Check those out

Ill admit, that made me chuckle :p

it doesnt matter much if we are talking 4 6 or 8 cylinder
The same rules apply when looking to increase MPG.
Check Aldives thread, quest for 30
Its all covered in there.

In my experience the E fan gave me the biggest jump in MPG, that and running tires at higher PSI.

Not sure if there is a CAI (Cold Air Induction) kit for the 06 yet but that mod on my 02 Ranger FX4 made a significant improvement in MPG and throttle response. I used the one from K&N with their cone type filter and intake tube. The only complaint I have is the increase in noise level, especially during cold start-up. But that is a small price to pay for the extra MPG IMO. ;)

to increase mileage chose another car with a small 4 cyl engine or chose a hybrid. The V8 is more economical than most of the V6 I know, my Eddie only takes a little more than my 5-cyl Volvo V70 turbo. And the V70 has had 500 kg less weight, frontdrive only, manual transmission. The price I pay for driving a V8 instead of the V70 for 2 tons, automatic and 4WD is a joke.
