Do you flush???

I posted a response about using BG 44k and doing other BG flushes. The poll is do you go the extra yard and perform flushes above what the Ford maintence book calls for?

I just do routine fluid changes and i change every fluid. I'd rather use non-synth fluids, but change them annually. It really doesn't take that long, but your truck will run for a long time, and run right.

My opinions: (opinions are like a__holes, everybody has one and they all stink )

Brake fluid: Brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbes water) so it is a good idea to flush the system when the fluid turns dark

Power Steering: Only if contaminated.

Coolent: Replace every two years to make sure corrosion inhibiters are fresh. I used to use a flushing product, but now I think that it is not necessary unless the coolent is contaminated or neglected

Oil: I don't think that separate flush products are necessary, particularly if you are using syn oil which has a high detergent level. I'm sure that you can find dissenting opinions on this here:the oil board

Trans fluid: I have flushed mine twice, once by dealer, once by the home method. I don't think that it is absolutely necessary if you are dropping the pan to change the filter and part of the fluid at regular intervals. I think an external filter is a good idea also.

Axles/Transfer Case: Change at regular intervals or switch to syn lube/ ATF and change at extended intervals.

Blinker fluid: Every 3 years or 20000 left turns

Tranny and coolant flushes done by dealer both around 50,000, both are due again. I think getting the tranny flushed at the dealer is a good idea, they use one that removes like 99% of the old fluid.

I flush the Coolant, Tranny Oil, Engine Oil- you know the basic stuff.

i pay to have it flushed by ford when its serviced .but i dont under stand why the oil is all ways black i allways used to change my own oil and it used to be only slightly darker then when i put it in. i suppose it comes down to if you want it done properly you have to do it your self

Can I use synthetic or is it better to use regular blinker oil?

I am always looking for ways to reduce my 1/4 mile times...maybe this upgrade will give me the power I need...

I flush the coolant, and change the oil. Don't know how to do the others. Guess I'll have to learn.

I don't flush anything in my rig.....my brother does it for me. He just needs to learn how to do the other things besides oil and coolant

Well the tranny fluid I will change if it has a burnt smell...not too often, maybe every 40,000 miles or so. It's worth noting that I don't do any towing or hauling...If you do, you should change it often.I hear too many horror stories about these transmissions...It's a definite good idea to flush the coolant. Oil every 3,000 miles...I guess I'm old school...you probably don't need to do it that often with these vehicles these days. I have learned from personal experience that if you take care of the fluids in your fords, they will take care of you for sure. It's when you neglect them, you pay in the long run. Changing it yourself is a great idea if you have the time.
