different cars use different fans. Our 2007 Suburban has two large electric fans. They can be loud on high but not as loud as the Explorer fan. Our 2002 Suburban had a large clutch fan. It rarely roared. Chevy used a Thermostatic Centrifugal clutch for the fan. Below 1,000 rpm fan is on and above 1,000 it disengaged unless there was too much heat from the condenser and radiator. It always kept the AC nice and cool on hot Texas days. The clutch also did not require run time to settle out like these Ford clutches. It's just about design. Chevy used a better design apparently.
So maybe someone can fit a 2002 Suburban fan clutch to an Explorer. This way start up roar is gone and fan is always on under 1,000 rpm great for traffic & AC.
