Hello there. I'm pretty new to this buffing/polishing thing. Last night i used a scratch and swirl remover and used an orbital sander with a bonnet on it to remove. It worked well, i think i shoudl actully do it again though. Anyways, a buddy of mine actully has a buffer, which spins very fast, and it seems to....well take of the scratches/scrapes, etc off while it's removing the compound. WIth mine, it doesnt seem to do anyting but remove the compound, no furhter posishing or cleaning effect.

Also, due to having some clear coat over my trim lines, i was forced to put black trim over it, how do I get the polish, etc off? Tooth Brush? finger nail?

Thanks
Matt.

No, they don't spin, at least from my experiences. It's actually one of the best ways to get rid of swirls without killing your paint.

A buffer DOES spin. They will kill your paint if you aren't careful enough. But once you mastered the technique, you will get excellent results.

They actually do spin, random orbital sanders do not, they just "jiggle". Buy one of these it fits on the shaft and has velcro on it. Once you find these, a foam pad will just stick to it which is the way most of them work, they are velcro backed. When you find one of these you go to your good auto parts store and find a foam compounding pad as well as a foam polishing pad. The pads are named for what they should be used with (compound, polish). Read this and this , it tells you everything you want to know.

Can I apply compound/swirl remover with the orbital????
