I was just wondering how many of you guys had some form of shift kit in your A4LD. When i had mine rebuilt, the mechanic (transmission specialist i guess you could call em) did his own shift kit to it, and made the tranny a bit stronger. Again im just curious how many of you have thought about or actually got shift kits.

I know they are out there, but didn't use on on my A4LD (ranger). I eventually broke something internally and just replaced it with a C5.

the pump in my a4ld imploded on itself, decided the shift kit would be real nice since the a4ld is real sluggish to start with. its still barely broken in yet, and it shifts real nice, good bite into 2nd gear. I can never see myself going to standard in any truck though.

I think transadapt makes one as well. Not sure though.

I just had this done makes for some nice clean shifts stiff and at the same rpms everytime! i love the way I had it rebuilt.

how many miles you put on it? i got maybe 2500 miles on mine since the rebuild, and its now starting to get broken in and shift even harder.

approx 200 miles since thursday now when you say shift harder do you mean in a good way? or bad way?

in a good way lol, like when it goes into gear, its just wam, into gear, none of this smooth crap.. though my u joints arent going to like that.

lol they are gunna have to deal with it or get replaced down the line lol so after it breaks in you can feel it even more? I cant wait lol

after what breaks?

what? I said after it breaks in you feel it even more? meaning the shift kit.

i beleive so, since parts of it have been replaced with ones for the shift kit, best i figure. The thing was rebuilt by the best tranny guy in the region (next to his retired dad). So yeah basically i needs a few miles on it to get it to actuallly get to what it is going to be like.

edit* breaks in as in, when all the parts are running perfectly after a certain amount of use.

how hard to install shift kit can it be done with tranny in truck. I hate the way my truck shifts.

Unfortunetely i didnt do my own shift kit, but i beleive for some vehicles it isnt too bad, however since i have little experience with it i wouldnt know. It is not reccomended to do large modifications to the A4LD since the planetaries are weak, or something like that, probably best to ask a tranny guy this stuff. sorry.

Im not sure I had it done aswell because I figured if anything it will help shifts and prolong the life of the transmission (hopefully) now when I had it done it was a complete replacment from the case and new valve body to the 6 roller planetarys and heavier bands.
