This is something I've been scouring the interwebs for a few days now. I'm getting ready and over at the TCCA forums that I belong, I modified the procedure a bit. I just wanted to know if you all had an 'at home/diy' procedure that maybe a little better?

0) add in 1/2 pint of SeaFoam Trans Tune to transmission fluid 30 mins before doing oil flush and follow instructions (drive around or go through gears) to work in Trans Tune properly.

1) Disconnect trans-line from transmission. Follow back the line from the Bottom of the Trans-Cooler on driver's side of radiator to find the 'return' line

2) Turn truck on and pump out old fluid through the return line. This will take a minute or two. Turn truck off when fluid starts 'crawling' out of line to prevent damage.

3) Pour in 4 quarts of new fluid and pump out the new fluid through the same disconnected hose. This will get any remaining fluid out of the Torque Converter.

4) Drop the Trans Oil Pan. Clean up magnet and pan itself with some brake cleaner

5) Replace new filter and gasket for Transmission pan. Make sure magnet is back in pan and bolt pan to transmission.

6) Add in 9.5 quarts and shift through all the gears.

By my calculations, I'll need roughly 9.5 quarts of oil for the full fill in step 8, along with the 'new' oil drain that step 3 calls out. So, roughly 14 quarts of oil. Does step 3 have enough oil going into the system to 'clean' out the old stuff?

Sounds like a winner. In regard to step 3), after pumping out the old fluid I'm pretty sure that the torque converter is for the most part empty and there's no need to pour in 4 more quarts and repeat the process. At least I don't do that when I flush my system... after pumping out the fluid via the cooler line I button everything back up and refill the trans, and my trans fluid is bright red and clear on the dipstick, and if there were a significant amount of fluid left in the converter I doubt that it would be that clean looking.

I've also found that if I change my fluid at regular intervals, the pan and the filter stay clean and its not really necessary to drop the pan until every third or fourth fluid change.

I would drop the pan and change the filter first. Fill to the proper level fluid and allow it to run a bit.

While the fluid is pumping out the cooler line have someone adding fluid in the dipstick. It's not good to leave it run dry. I would skip the seafoam as well. ATF has enough cleaning properties that new fluid should be all it needs.

Good point. You and someone else on the TCCA forums said to just start by dropping the pan and cleaning up that.

I'm going to be replacing the Torque Converter as well, which means dropping the transmission. Does anyone have a procedure on that TC R&R?
