Is their a light weight driveshaft that is built for the Explorer/Ranger? Or, is their one that will fit on to our application? Thoughts:afro:

i dont really think the lil bit of weight ull loose on a light weight drive shaft wil help.........

becuz its a VERY VERY small weight compared to all of the ther weights

and i dunno if there made but im sure u coudl get a custom one

PEACE

We have a shop FULL of Explorers and a couple have (stock) aluminum driveshafts. I'm sure they're interchangeable.

Are the driveshafts that the Explorer are equiped with already light weight? I have a 97, does my X have an Aluminum driveshaft?
thanx.

As far as i know my 96 V-8 is not an aluminum driveshaft. My friend friend did some calculations for school on mustang aluminum driveshafts and he found that they really dont add hp... more of a weight savings instead.

Im sure a driveshaft shop could make you up one if you really wanted.

my dads ranger as well as several of the ford vans and other fullsize trucks have aluminum driveshafts..... my truck has a standard steel one.....

The aluminum shafts are lighter than the steel ones but I couldn't say how much without removing both and weighing them. Look under your Ex at the driveshaft. If it's shiny it's aluminum.

Beside removing weight from the vehicle, removing weight from the drivetrain is a bonus. It's called rotational weight. The less you have of it the faster response you'll have. That is to say that if you take a pound off of your rotational weight it's better than taking a pound out of the interior. Now in practical terms this wouldn't add squat to an Explorer's perf because of the tremendous weight you've got to pull anyway.

Les rotating mass also=

Less chance of vibration. And the larger tubing diameter of the alum. shafts add regidity. But dont to **** for imact resistance.
