I was told it was 2WD, however there is a book on four wheeling inside the OEM book case. I checked this VIN decoder https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/vin-decoder/ but nothing came up about drivetrain. The engine is stock and is a V6 SOHC, not a V8 like edmunds says about the XLT.

How do I figure out whether or not I have AWD?

remove a front hubcap. if you see a big nut in the center, it's 4WD (not AWD if a v6) if you see an axle cap, it's RWD. they all come with that book. for that matter a 4WD will have a switch for 4WD HI/LO (or 4WD AUTO) to the left of the radio.

only the v8's can have AWD.

If its a V6, its not AWD. If it is 4WD it will have a switch on the dash and a transfer case on the drive shaft. No transfer case=2WD
