does the crank sensor or the cam sensor cause the chirp?

I have searched and some say the cam sensor makes the chirp noise and others say its the crank sensor.I have 4.0 SOHC and I would like to go ahead and fix this problem before it gets worse.

On my 5.0 it was the cam sensor as it rotated. The crank sensor doesn't move, just sits there.

+2 for the cam sensor...

And your sensor is almost all installed inside the rear center of the block...All it does is relay rotation from the camshaft drive gear to the oil pump...

Crap.I was hoping that it was just a simple little sensor that you unbolt and pop in a new one.Is this fairly simple to do?

Once the upper intake is off it's not that bad...

At least you don't have to time the sensor like if you had an OHV engine...Just remember to lubricate the sensor before installing it...It starts chirping because the bearings or bushings lubrication dry out over time...

I have installed the driveshaft and the sensor in a number of 4 and 5 liter OHV engines and always used Lubriplate on the gears and the shafts of them...

I would think the hardest part of removing this one is getting it out of the block...But it is like removing and installing a distributor without having to remember to index the drive gears...
