Dome lights and ignition

In my 2008 Explorer 4.0, dome lights come on each time I turn ignition off, irrespective of the dimmer thumbwheel position. This is a very uncomfortable feature. Any idea how I can disable it?

There is local switch on the dome light; if it is failing it is shorting on all the time.
Of course it could be the thumbwheel switch.

Disconnet the battery adn then connect an electric meter set to resistance/read ohms and check for no resistance across either, or both switches.

I am having the same dome light going on and off when the keys are moved. Has anyone seen that bulletin on how to fix it its driving me crazy. Do i need to replace the whole ignition or is it a wire or a spring?

and is it hard to remove the collum, is there anything that is going to go BOING and then im in a whole new world of trouble? PS this site is sooooooooo freaking cool.

There is a 15 second time out for the light, unless you hit the keypad entry, or the keyfob door lock - possibly related? Am checking..

my dome ight stay on longer than the 15 second delay.To get them to shut off i had to turn them off with the thumb wheel.Any suggestions on what to look for to solve this?

the problem i am having is the dome light will come on when the key is in and the motor is running. If i jiggle the keys the light comes on as if the key has been removed. There is a switch in the ignition that is not completly ingaging when the key is in and turned on. If i hit a bump all of a sudden the cab is lit up like day time. Funny story: I was sitting next to a cop who was just speeding arount my town waisting my citys gas and beating up on my citys police car. I was sitting in the dark looking at him and saying mean things out loud (with the windows up of course, dont need any extra trouble.) Then just as he looks at me my dome light comes on and creates a moment of "F*#k gona get pulled over now". I need this problem fixed
