Up to this point I've determined the door buttons work. Because my anti thelf light turns on when there open and off when there closed. However

Do the door latches contain the buttons for the dome lights? And the anti theft has it's own set of door buttons? The doors have regular push buttons like old cars that when I push turn off the anti theft light , but are they also for the dome light as well?

Also , is there a relay on the car for the dome light that could be stuck on?

And a side question , I went to the junkyard and pulled two headlight switches from two other first gens. However when I got them home they were completely different from my headlight switch in my eb. The ones I pulled had one plug , the one in my eb has two , just wondering why it's different?

I know that on my 93 Explorer, the dome lights are turned on/off by the little buttons that are between the door hinges. Maybe that'll help you?

It does help if it means the doors only use those buttons , and don't have any integraded in to the latches (cept the gate that is).

Isn't there a timer on the car to turn off the done lights after some time? maybe it's broken? Or a relay?

I don't believe there is a timer on the first gens. However, there is also no relay. Its all run off the fuse. The headlight switch and the switches on the doors are the only mechanical parts I know of that will turn the dome light on.

Maybe one of those door switches is stuck or broken.

Can't be , I already checked them.

The first gens do have a timer. Because if I put a bulb in the dome light w/o opening the doors or turning the key after a few hours it doesn't go on. However if I do anything that would activate the dome lights , they will go on and stay on till the timer goes off again.

No timer in the 1st gens. Not even the Limited or Eddie Bauer.

An alarm installed would have that. But not the car.

It does have a stock keyless entry and alarm : \. Could that be screwing with the dome lights? It definitely turns off the dome lights (if the bulbs where in) after a set ammount of time.

Another thing thats weird , the headlight switch isn't the same as the other explorers I saw in the junk yard. As far as I know it does the exact same thing (turns on head lights , adjusts dash lights and dome light) But it has alot more wires and plugs running to it then the ones I pulled out of the other explorers. Weird eh?

Also the ones I pulled wernt even useable , the plugs were very different.

I went outside and tested it , I put a bulb in the dome light and nothing , even opening the doors does nothing. But as soon as I turn the key in the ignition the dome light came on , and stayed on. Hmm.

My dome light stays on unless the fuse is pulled. It is supposed to operate with the headlight switch and the door switches as well as a 3 position switch on the dome light unit itself. I can't figure this one out so the bulbs (all 3) are out and laying on the console.
