hello so my rear passagner door is stuck closed.... i finally got the door panel off and as far as i can tell its stuck in the locked position and will not move. i've been searching for awhile and all i can find is to "just beat on it while tring to unlock the door". well needless to say ive been beating the crap out of it all day and nothing:mad:
i tried pulling/pushing on all the rods and all im doing is bending things. so please help me out is there anything else i can try
Thanks

I remeber this happening to my driver side door a while back. The pounding ended up breaking all of the internal mechanisms, locks, wires. Does your bar that moves to show locked or unlocked move up or down?

its the rod that goes from the plastic pop up lock inside the door by the window. the one that you pull/push to lock/unlock manully and it goes left and right (sorry if that dosent make sense)

I had a similar problem. The screw holding the latch to the door was too long and pressing against the internal workings of the latch. I had to cut that bolt to let the latch release the striker. Don't want to do that again.

i think i might have to cut it out as well.... i have tried everything i could think of and it just wont release. any tips on how to go about cutting the latch out??

I had a friend with a sport with a drivers door that wouldn't open. I am not sure which year, but its a gen 2. She delivers for us and is in and out of her car hundreds of times a week so it was important to get if fixed. It started out with the lock not working then later it just would jamb the whole door up to finally it wouldn't open up at all. We got the door panel off and I took all the rods loose except inside handle and after we did that it opened up after playing with it for a while. We replaced the latch mechanism only to find it didn't fix anything. We messed with it until the wee hours of the morning to finally figure out that it was the outside door handle has a spring that holds up the rod. The spring broke and just the tension of the weight the rod on the latch would cause it to jam. My quick fix was I ran a weak carburetor return spring to the bottom of the rod and it lifted it enough that everything functions correctly. Its been 8 or 9 months ago and everything it fine. I don't know if it will help you, but it helped us. I just bought a 2000 and my drivers door lock only locks the door sometimes so I was going to take off the door panel and give it a look maybe this week.

I'll take a shot at it...

Since you have the door panel off there is a horizontal rod that should be in the middle of the door with the panel off...If you move the rod back toward the rear of the door and try to push the door open what happens? Also try to pull up on the locking rod and/or the outside door handle at the same time I believe...

I bought my Sport with both doors nonfunctional and I removed the drivers seat just remove the panel to use the rod to unlock and open the door... I found the latch spring to be broken and sitting in the latch arms area when I got the doors open... I replaced both latches to fix it...
